I am a photographer based in Southeastern Pennsylvania. I first created images as a boy with my dad’s old Argus rangefinder camera. I quickly realized my prefer- ence to be the photographer, rather than the subject. I attribute my design sense and creative ability to visualize things to my mother, a very talented fine artist.
I developed my craft at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Salisbury University. When composing an image, I will consider different approaches by visualizing a scene before shooting, or “Seeing with the Mind’s Eye”. I always visualize an im- age before I press the shutter, allowing me to “be responsible for everything in the frame”. A favorite quote from a former photo instructor.
I always enjoy creating new images focusing on rural Pennsylvania, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and many areas of Appalachia, including both Virginia and West Virginia. Coastal Maine, the desert Southwest, especially Southern Utah are also favorites. I feel a strong connection to the historic and picturesque Oley Val- ley in Berks County, Pennsylvania, since my ancestors settled in this area in the early 18th century.
My favorite subjects include travel, nature, landscapes, and architecture. Docu- mentary photography is a true passion, including social landscapes and historic structures.
